This sculpture is made from broken vinyl records and scrap wood. The materials are cut and reassembled into a stacked form, built by attaching pieces where they could hold rather than where they should align.

Some elements sit unevenly, and the balance remains slightly unstable.

Parts of the sculpture fell off several times while I was making it and were reintroduced into the work. At one point, I accidentally knocked it off the table and had to partially rebuild it. Rather than seeing these things as mistakes, I kept working with what had happened to the piece. The final sculpture is partly shaped by these accidents and the changes they caused.

This is the first piece where I’ve drawn directly onto the surface. Similar loose, looping drawings have appeared in my sketchbooks and earlier work, but I hadn’t used them in this way before. I’ve drawn over the cracks and joins without trying to fix them.

The drawing becomes part of the structure of the piece rather than something separate from it.
